In 2024, the Hokonui Fashion Design Awards celebrate their 36th anniversary, marking a significant milestone as the longest-running fashion design awards of their kind in New Zealand.
Held in Gore in late July, the awards have become a cornerstone of the national fashion calendar, drawing entries and attention from across the country. Since their inception in 1988, the awards have provided a competitive platform for amateur fashion designers to present their creations to esteemed industry leaders.
Over the years, the judging panel has featured prominent figures such as Karen Walker, Nic Blanchet, Francis Hooper, Trelise Cooper, Kate Sylvester, Liz Findlay, Doris Du Pont, and Margi Robertson (of NOM*d).
