Features & Facilities
Established in 1977 the Hokonui Pioneer Village and Museum was founded to protect the history of the Gore District.
Historically the land was mined for clay for adjacent brickworks. Now it is home to a wildlife pond, a waterwheel, a crane that loaded the ‘Earnslaw’ at Kingston and a church with a lychgate.
Pioneer Village has a variety of historical buildings onsite such as the old Balfour bank, the Mandeville Anglican Church, Ferndale School, and Pioneer cottage. The complex also adjoins the Vintage Car Club Motor Museum.
The Mandeville church is available for hire for small weddings, funerals, baptisms, and family reunions. With a capacity of 60 guests, it makes the perfect place to hold a gathering with friends and family.
