Mataura Museum - Clematis Cottage
Possibly one of New Zealand’s cutest museums, the Mataura Museum is set within the 1880s-era Clematis Cottage and reflects Mataura’s rich social and industrial heritage.
While the cottage is more than a century old, the technology used within it and its surrounds create an interaction experience for visitors, plus add a touch of colour and fun to any visit.
A large collection of images from Mataura’s history is comprehensive and inviting – showcasing so much about the history of this area through imagery and pictures. Learn about the industrial beginnings of Mataura – the paper mill and freezing works, and the people who worked there.
And don’t forget, this museum is award-winning. Following its opening in 2015, the museum was co-winner of the Best New Project award at the New Zealand Museum Awards – and yes, we think it’s pretty special too.
Location: 68 Kana Street, Mataura.
Free entry and donations welcome.
Open – Friday, Saturday and Sunday – 1:00pm – 4:00pm.
